The Brother P-Touch PT-1290BT2 lets you create stylish labels for the home or office. It has 15 Deco mode and 7 Framing mode patterns provide great-looking options for labels. It also Also features 2 fonts styles as well as professional-looking 1- and 2-label layouts. It features an easy-to-view 15-character LCD to preview labels and auto tape detection automatically adjusts the text size based on the tape size. The built-in memory stores up to 9 of your most frequently used labels. The labeler uses durable laminated "TZ" series tapes up to 0.5" wide and operates on 6 AAA batteries (sold separately). It includes one 1/2" black on white tape and one 1/2" white on berry pink tape.

Bought this item on sale (a good value at full price, but there's absolutely no reason to pay full price when it is often discounted) and it has become a workhouse in my home and shop. If you don't need labels wider than 1/2", this is the way to go!

I was really looking forward to using this item, but I guess my first mistake was buying an open box item. Apparently it was returned by someone else because it didn't work, and it was simply returned to stock and resold -- to me. I guess my luck was bound to run out. After all, I've had pretty good results buying open box on several occasions, so my good luck couldn't last forever. My second mistake was assuming it would work and not checking it out before I threw away the packaging it came in. I won't make THAT mistake again. I may still take a chance on an open box item but never again will I throw out the packaging before making sure what I received isn't an expensive paperweight. "Once burned, twice shy" as the old saying goes, and I got burned this time. I already ordered a new item (of a different model) and since I can't think of a single good reason to keep this non functioning piece of garbage, I'll probably just throw it out and be thankful it was only $17 instead of $70. My recommendation to the seller? When an item doesn't work, don't wrap it up and ship it.
